Book was apparently never checked for correct grammar and typo errors. Most technical content is good but the writing style is cumbersome, convoluted, repetitious, and otherwise hard to follow. Some figures are incorrectly numbered or inadequately labeled which adds to the confusion. This book needs a good technical editor and a good proof reader to check and correct grammatical errors and sentence and paragraph structure.My background is in electronics and computers (BSEE and MSEE degrees) so most of the topics are familiar to me. However for the novice, I believe learning from this book would be difficult.I will be returning this item.
I've been looking for a few books that will help prepare myself for an electronics certification exam. My local bookstore has very few books on the subject of electronics, unless you like something for "Dummies!" So, as I was scanning over the electronics books here on Amazon, I stumbled across this new "Radio Theory Handbook." Being that I'm not an amateur radio enthusiast, I usually don't pay much attention to any of the ham radio books. But, this particular book, got my curiosity. To my surprise, it wasn't entirely "All" about amateur ham radio stuff at all, it was mostly about electronics & theory. In fact, there were only a few chapters out of many, that were dedicated to ham radio. I was amazed at the amount of information on electronics that was provided in this handbook. All those years, seeing those massive antennas on the sides of people's homes, all the while not realizing that I had something in common with them. I am a serious electronics enthusiast, and I can really appreciate all that hard work. All in all, I am very happy with this book. I also have a copy of the 2016 ARRL Radio Handbook, but I feel that this "Radio Theory Handbook" covers nearly the same topics, but in a simpler, and easier to understand format.
Holy Cow! This is ABSOLUTELY the single best book that I've ever seen on radio electronics. I have an amateur extra radio license and have read many books on this subject, but this one provides the clearest, best organized, and most coherent explanations on this subject. The prose is succinct, the examples make the more abstract concepts clear -- it's just a great book. This book is for beginners or for people like me, who already have some knowledge and expertiese in radio electronics. An easy read on a subject that can be little daunting sometimes. Not now! Very highly recommended and well worth the money if you're interested in this subject.
It's really a nice book! The layout is great and written wonderfully. Even if you're strong on electrical knowledge, there's still some great information.He gets into some good theory including the mathematical equations.This book is a no brainer to have on the shelf, even if you're not an Amature radio operator, if you just want to expand your knowledge it's worth the purchase.
Well after a "quick flick" through the book, it is exactly what is needed for candidates studying to upgrade from Foundation to Standard and Advanced amateur radio licence.Easily understandable concepts and more than enough to get you over the line.However it is not an ARRL Handbook, ARRL Antenna book nor even a "Radio Handbook" by Bill Orr or an RSGB Radio handbook.These "Bibles" are different and often have much more technical content and projects and have their place in every hamshack as well.Every assessor should consider having one of Ron's new books in their "kit" to promote to budding hams and candidates looking towards the upgrade path of their ham radio licence.The content applies equally well to any Countries study regime as well and just as useful for Technician to General to Extra.
The Standard and Advanced syllabus and examination requirements for Australia seem confusing and daunting but don't let that bother you. This book is written by a person who has expereance in training individuals in plain english format, which enables anyone with a interest to learn what is required to pass the level of training you are interested in achieving. Well worth the investment.
This is an excellent book. It is written for the average HAM who is not an engineer or physicist. Very well written and organized. If you are looking for a book on radio theory this is for you.
